I’m an award-winning reporter with more than a decade of experience writing about technology and society.

My reporting has prompted company closures and resignations, scored citations by federal and state lawmakers, sparked attorney general investigations, been picked up by national and international media outlets hundreds of times (including CNN, the BBC, New York Magazine, Harper’s, Wired, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, NBC News, The Guardian, The Daily Beast, Vulture, MIT Tech Review, GQ, and many others), and has been cited in dozens of books. My coverage of the hack of crypto exchange Bitfinex is being adapted into Dutch & Razzlekhan, an in-development feature film, and I won an SPJ NorCal Excellence in Journalism award for my narrative writing on AI and relationships. I’ve appeared on the BBC, CNN, LBC, and elsewhere to discuss technology and culture.

I spent the last year as a Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University, studying corporate finance, economics, accounting, and statistics.

From 2015 to 2025 I worked for Business Insider, most recently as a senior correspondent writing long-form features and investigations about AI and platform companies. In my time there I was also acting executive editor of the UK bureau, news editor, a correspondent covering Facebook and social media, and a reporter writing about policy and the gig economy.
